Tutankhamun: An archaeological marvel that captivated the world
Today
In the heart of the Valley of the Kings, amidst the mystical Theban Desert, lies one of the most famous pharaonic tombs that has captivated the world's imagination since its discovery in 1922: the tomb of Tutankhamun.
The tomb was discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter, who described his first glimpse of the tomb as "a sight of pure gold shining in the darkness." The tomb was almost intact, a rarity in the Valley of the Kings.
The tomb contained more than 5,000 artifacts, including the famous golden coffin, a death mask made of pure gold and lapis lazuli, a royal chariot, luxurious furniture, statues, and rare jewelry.
